Terms of use
These are the terms for using this site, written to be read rather than scrolled past. The short version: the site is free and there is nothing to buy and no account to create; what you read here is general information, not advice; you are welcome to quote it with a link back; and while every claim is sourced and dated, you use the site on your own judgement and at your own risk.
Who publishes this#
CourseKiln is an independent, non-affiliate guide published by Kiln Guides and edited by Scott Jones, who is accountable for what it says. We sell nothing, we take no affiliate commission, referral fee or revenue share from anyone we write about, and we have nothing to gain from the decision you make. Questions about these terms can be sent to hello@kilnguides.co.uk.
One disclosure, made before anyone has to ask for it: Kiln Guides is being incorporated as a limited company and the registration is currently with Companies House. The registered name and number will be added to this page the day it completes, and the change will be logged on the corrections page. We teach readers that a missing company record is a question to ask rather than a verdict, and the same standard applies to us, so here is the answer to the question in advance.
Using the site#
The site is provided free of charge for your personal and business use. There is no account, no subscription and no contract beyond these terms. Reading the site does not create any professional, advisory or client relationship between you and us.
Information, not advice#
Everything here is general information for a general reader. It is not legal advice, not financial advice, and not advice about your particular situation. The full statement of what this site is and is not lives on the disclaimer page, and it forms part of these terms.
Quoting and reusing what we write#
You are welcome to quote, cite, link to or share any page on this site, with attribution and a link back to the page you used. That is what it is for. Two limits: do not republish whole pages as your own work, and do not present anything we write as a rating, accusation or endorsement of any individual seller. We name no seller in our own voice; where a regulator or a court has acted, we cite their published finding and link to it, and the judgement stays theirs.
Accuracy, and its limits#
Every factual claim on the site traces to a named source with the date we checked it, and mistakes are corrected in the open on the corrections page. Even so, the site is provided as it stands, without warranty of any kind. Laws are amended, figures are restated and enforcement shifts. Before you act on anything time-sensitive, check it against the current primary source we link to.
Liability#
To the fullest extent the law allows, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, this site. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Links to other sites#
We link out to primary sources: legislation, regulators, courts and official registers. Those sites belong to their publishers, change without notice, and are not under our control. A link is a pointer to the source we relied on, not responsibility for what it says tomorrow.
Complaints about content#
If you believe something on this site is wrong about you or your business, use the same route as any correction: email hello@kilnguides.co.uk with the page, the exact words complained of, and the evidence. We review every complaint against the primary sources. A genuine error is corrected in the open and logged on the corrections page. An accurate, sourced description is not removed because someone would prefer it gone, and since we name no seller in our own voice, a complaint that something here is "about" a particular business is usually answering a question we never asked.
Changes to these terms#
If these terms change, this page changes and its updated date changes with it. A material change is also noted on the corrections page, because we hold our own record to the same standard as the rest of the site.
Governing law#
These terms, and any dispute about this site, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
